When
I first started teaching I lived on Hi-way C, just south on Hi-way 5. I used
to drive past this farm house that was split form its barn by the highway. My
drive home time was just about the time the farmer would cross the road with
a bucket of milk. The image below is a collage that was inspired by this event.
It is constructed from home made paper on Arches 300 lb water color paper. Most
of my work comes from events that I recall.
When
my girls were little sometimes we would stop by Wrinks market on the way home
and buy some lunch meat and some cheese. Sandwich night was always fun. Mr.
Wrinkle would always give the girls a taste of some new lunchmeat, or maybe
a bite of cheese.
The Bell Restaurant is an experience in itself. A rt. 66
must.
Before
the old Alloway store burnt down it was a great place to stop and get a friendly
smile from the owners. The Alloways would always keep a jug of water on hand
for the stranded passer-by. They were kind and friendly people. The store had
the old time good feeling the moment you walked into it. The Town of sleeper
lost part of it's identity when it burned down. Still if you sit and look for
a moment you can see it's spirit and the kind people that ran it. Groceries
and more lined the walls of the brick building. This drawing is in our public
library in Lebanon as you enter the Rt-66 Museum.
